Dwayne A. Taylor is an American nature, wildlife, landscapes, cityscapes, underwater, marketing and events photographer.
He has traveled over 30 years observing and capturing scenes from coast to coast as an outdoorsman and conservationist in the USA, including the Sierra Nevada Mountains, The Grand Teton Mountains, San Diego, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe. His love of nature began as a young child in his native Kentucky. Taylor observed animal behavior and gained other important lessons including patience to enable quality photography in the wild.
Dwayne spent his teenage years in Cincinnati where he received his first 35mm camera. He later spent 4 years in the Air Force based in Fort Walton Beach, FL, where his photography enthusiasm blossomed as he became fascinated with photographing airplanes. Then, in the late 90’s he settled in New England, where he is well known as “The Butterfly Man of Salem”.
A citizen scientist, Dwayne spent many years raising Monarch butterflies, an interest that grew from his nature macro photography work. The “Butterfly Man of Salem” met a local cinematographer who produced a short documentary first released at the Salem Film Festival in March 2018 to chronicle his work with Monarchs. In 2017, Dwayne was invited to photograph the annual Dance Works Fundraiser Showcase when their featured photographer was no longer available. There a new challenge and interest was born, and he has photographed the event since. The requirements for photographing indoors with a dimly lit stage and fast-moving dancers presented new obstacles, but Dwayne’s higher intellect made this a quick study and his work has been published in newsletters for The Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, The March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society along with local and online news publications.
While Dwayne is a prolific nature photographer, Taylor is as much an artist, citizen scientist and professional mechanical engineer, conservationist and enthusiastic scholar of all things related to photography. His photographs have been published in Better Homes and Gardens, Shutterbug Magazine and Boating Magazine to name a few.
